VSA Florida Joins Forces with Special Olympics - Creativity Abounds!
This month, and all through spring, VSA Florida, (VSAFL) will be promoting creativity through a renewed partnership by bringing the arts to the Florida Special Olympics. The relationship began years ago when the founder of VSA, Jean Kennedy Smith and the founder of the Special Olympics, Eunice Kennedy Shriver, sisters by birth into the legendary Kennedy family, decided to bring social impact to communities of people with disabilities. In each of the eleven area games planned for the spring, VSAFL teaching artists will be working with students to create banners to cheer team members on, or sing songs at opening ceremonies; art stops to enjoy creative expression during down time from the competitions…or entertainment for siblings waiting for events to finish up.
