VSA Florida is proud to announce Aarushi Pratap as the April 2018 Student of the Month.
16-year-old Aarushi was nominated by her classroom teacher, Mary Beth Radigan, from H.B. Plant High School in Tampa. Ms. Radigan writes, “In my 30+ years of teaching, I have never had the pleasure of working with such a talented student. Aarushi Pratap is a gifted young artist who creates the unimaginable.” Aarushi shares her design and sewing skills on her own website, enjoys sketching, painting, ceramics and drawing, and illustrating her own blog. Recently Aarushi published her own newsletter that was formatted as a comic book. She illustrated it using watercolors and ink, sharing what she calls, My 2017 Journey.
Aarushi has also developed a business for designing and altering clothing. Ms. Radigan continues, “As a young lady who is only 16 years old...the art and design world will be open to her with such promise.” This aspiring young artist who has autism (ASD), manages to find time to not only be an excellent academic student but includes cheerleading, basketball, Special Olympics, and Dragon Boat Racing into her schedule.
In the coming weeks, VSA Florida is looking forward to presenting Aarushi with hergift certificate and personalized trophy for winning this prestigious award.
The VSA Florida Student of the Month Program is designed to increase public awareness and recognize the impact arts make on students with disabilities statewide. Students who participate in the arts develop creativity, have increased self-confidence, understand teamwork, have increased language and math skills and are generally more engaged.
