Comments from a Classroom Teacher

[title}

"At the showing of the art work in the gallery space, parents who rarely bring their children to extracurricular events attended.  The pride they had in their students being involved was evident.  Parents sat with other parents, alongside their students and interacted in a way they seldom do because they are rarely in the same place.  Several parents drove to this, although time, distance and gas money as well as family issues were complicated, but they all showed up!" -  Quote from a classroom teacher following an artist residency program in her classroom that was followed by an exhibition of work.

We have a collection of comments from the field from classroom teachers and teaching artists from many of our residency programs.  I will be posting them for you to read and get a better understanding of what VSA Florida really does.

$500 - That’s how much it costs to bring an artist into a classroom to electrify the creativity of all students, including those with a disability.
$500 provides an avenue to change teacher attitudes about the abilities of students with disabilities.
$500 offers an opportunity for students with disabilities to change their perception of their own abilities and for their classmates to turn up side down their perception of disability.

Arts for All Lending Program

VSA Florida has a statewide database of art making tools that can be used in the classroom, neighborhoods, parks and recreation sites, or anywhere there is a sidewalk or open space for creating.  Arts for All art tools are one-of-a-kind products that offer individuals of all abilities an opportunity for creative expression through arts and mobility.  Art tools are designed so participants with limited movement or lack of fine motor skills can be successful in using what mobility they have to create, paint, draw, and print.

If you are interested in leasing the equipment for absolutely no cost (only cost is for disposable materials), please contact your regional program coordinator or Wendy Finklea at 813-974-0715 or wfinklea@usf.edu.
