Brevard and Pinellas County Students to be Featured in National Touring All Kids Can CREATE Exhibition

VSA Florida is proud to announce our state representatives in the 2011 All Kinds Can CREATE national touring exhibition, featuring artwork submitted by students, ages 5-15, from each state and the District of Columbia. Julia Barbieri from Ponce De Leon Elementary in Clearwater, Florida had her piece, “If I Had Magic Shoes,” submitted by her teacher Wendy Bruce and Sara Ashley from Holy Trinity Episcopal Academy in Melbourne had her piece, “Sailing East, Sailing West,” submitted by her teacher, Gina Hulse. We congratulate both students for their beautiful work they created under the exhibition theme, “Imagination Across America” that will open on June 13th in Washington, DC. Their work as well as all of the artwork submitted this year, from paintings to sculptures to photographs, is included in an online gallery at www.artsonia.com/allkidscancreate.

The 2011 All Kids Can CREATE program, sponsored by VSA and CVS Caremark, launched in November 2010 invited young artists living with and without disabilities to submit a piece of artwork. More than 4,700 entries from artists across the country were submitted. An expert panel of judges, including artists and art educators selected 102 student artists to be featured in this exhibition. $500 - That’s how much it costs to bring an artist into a classroom to electrify the creativity of all students, including those with a disability.
$500 provides an avenue to change teacher attitudes about the abilities of students with disabilities.
$500 offers an opportunity for students with disabilities to change their perception of their own abilities and for their classmates to turn up side down their perception of disability.

Arts for All Lending Program

VSA Florida has a statewide database of art making tools that can be used in the classroom, neighborhoods, parks and recreation sites, or anywhere there is a sidewalk or open space for creating.  Arts for All art tools are one-of-a-kind products that offer individuals of all abilities an opportunity for creative expression through arts and mobility.  Art tools are designed so participants with limited movement or lack of fine motor skills can be successful in using what mobility they have to create, paint, draw, and print.

If you are interested in leasing the equipment for absolutely no cost (only cost is for disposable materials), please contact your regional program coordinator or Wendy Finklea at 813-974-0715 or wfinklea@usf.edu.
