Luz Elena AponteJanB

A South Florida Hispanic artist who notwithstanding the challenges of developmental disabilities, with the support of her team and technology creates abstract art that conveys a special meaning and message to those who see and purchase them.  Owning a piece of LUZ’s art will inspire you to “Believe In”, to “Dare to Dream”, to “Enjoy…”, and to see the “Possibilities” for your life and  move beyond your personal challenges.  An inspiring micro-enterprise pioneer, Lucy demonstrates that people can reach their dreams by using their talents to develop their own businesses and achieve the American dream of self sufficiency.  Her family’s motto:  To Love, To Learn, To Share and To Serve.  Lucy’s business name:  Life’s Unlimited Zenith, LLC is best understood by Gandhi’s quote:  “My life is my message”.

“Not being able to speak is not the same as not having anything to say, to do, to learn, to dream!”

Crystle Barrs

Crystle Barrs is 26 and has lived in Florida all of her life.  She was born with Nystagmus which has caused her to be legally blind.  Crystle has grown to understand that she can do anything she sets her mind to and feels that just because she has limited vision doesn't mean she should stop living.  Crystle began experimenting with drawing and art while in school, but never thought too much of it.  She has now been painting for 7 years.  Her medium is acrylic and she likes to experiment with pastels.  She has not yet found her specialty, but loves to paint depending on her mood, whether it's something floral or abstract.  What Crystle has worked on the most is being creative and taking an idea and expanding it to another level.  She is still a student in the art world and thinks of art as a potential career and hopes to make that happen sometime in the near future.

Jack "Mr. B." BeverlandJanB

Mr. B is a self-taught southern folk artist who has found peace of mind in his unique and special kind of one of a kind art.  Born into a poor family in 1939, his mother moved him and his older brother to Florida after his father died.  Their existence was meager but the experience gave him a strong drive for success.  Later in life Mr. B learned there was no such thing as "corporate loyalty" after being forced into retirement, leaving Mr. B. lost and angry.  Mr. B. conquered the angry beast within through southern folk art.  Mr. B.  portrays the simple life - the life that most of us want to live - the days of our childhood - the dreams we once had and most importantly, the way we would all like it to be.

Bruce Cook

The award winning assemblages of Bruce and Dottie Cook have been juried as both fine and folk art for over a decade.  The "outsider" work has been very popular and is permanently displayed in museums, state parks and public buildings across Florida.  It is in galleries, collections and charity auctions nationwide.  The materials and techniques range from simple to sublime, often using "findings", then finished with a very durable epoxy resin designed to last for generations.  Outdoor display is not recommended however.  Notable exhibitions include the NFL Players Association in conjunction with Super Bowl XLIII and XLIV, the Princeton University Medical Center, House of Blues in Orlando and LeMoynes Center for Visual Art.  Bruce has been adjudicated to the Southern Artists Federation, listed in Who's Who of American Art and nominated to the Florida Artists Hall of Fame.  Bruce and Dottie operate River Wood Studio in scenie Suwannee County, Florida.  Commissioned work is always welcome by contacting the studio.

Susana Cremin

Susan Cremin, BWS has been teaching art and selling her work for the past 18 years in the Treasure Coast, and 25 years through the U.S., Canada and South America.  Her works spans the gamut from illustrative to impressionistic, abstraction to just plain fun.  She expresses color from her heart and translates it into exciting works of art.

Susana is a certified instructor for several disciplines, however, never tires of acquiring new knowledge.  She is always learning and experimenting with new techniques and surfaces.  She shares with her students her enthusiasm and knowedge to express feelings and emotions with others through their art.  It is truly a wonder to see a student's evolution with knowledge and guidance.

Twice nominated for Outstanding Visual Artist by the Martin County Arts Council in 2007 and 2008, she has won numerous local First Place Awards.  She is a signature member of the Baltimore Watercolor society and her works are held in numerous private and public collections throughout Canada, South America and the United States including the collection at The Elliott Museum in Hutchinson Island in Florida.

Susana thrives when painting, intensely in tune with her subject.  She observes and expands the play of light and shadows.  She takes on the challenge to portray on a one-dimensional surface an elusive moment.

Luis CroasdaileJanB

Artist Luis E. Croasdaile, born in Honduras, lost his hearing at an early age, which impeded his speech, yet despite this challenge, Luis went on to study for two years in Barcelona, Spain, where he discovered his interest in and talent for art. After immigrating to the United States to build on his artistic skills, he found a constant inspiration in his daughter and continued painting now for personal satisfaction. Luis takes ordinary scenes and people and transforms them into a cubist world. This reflects his belief that only through a skewed perspective will truth be revealed and with high hopes of a cubist revival. In his words, "We must look beyond the surface and constantly question our realities and motives."

$500 - That’s how much it costs to bring an artist into a classroom to electrify the creativity of all students, including those with a disability.
$500 provides an avenue to change teacher attitudes about the abilities of students with disabilities.
$500 offers an opportunity for students with disabilities to change their perception of their own abilities and for their classmates to turn up side down their perception of disability.

Arts for All Lending Program

VSA Florida has a statewide database of art making tools that can be used in the classroom, neighborhoods, parks and recreation sites, or anywhere there is a sidewalk or open space for creating.  Arts for All art tools are one-of-a-kind products that offer individuals of all abilities an opportunity for creative expression through arts and mobility.  Art tools are designed so participants with limited movement or lack of fine motor skills can be successful in using what mobility they have to create, paint, draw, and print.

If you are interested in leasing the equipment for absolutely no cost (only cost is for disposable materials), please contact your regional program coordinator or Wendy Finklea at 813-974-0715 or wfinklea@usf.edu.
