2008 Application Guidelines

Since 1984, the VSA arts International Young Soloists Program has sought to identify internationally talented musicians who have a disability. The VSA arts International Young Soloists Award is given annually to four outstanding musicians, two from the United States and two from the international arena.

Once again, VSA arts of Florida is very pleased to announce that we will be conducting a statewide program to feature the talent of our young musicians.  Five finalists selected by an illustrious panel of judges will showcase their artistry during a concert this fall. In addition, the first place winner will receive a $1,000.00 US Savings Bond and the four finalists will each receive a $500.00 US Savings Bond.

Eligibility

Any individual musician (instrumental or vocal) or musical ensembles (two to eight members) age 25 and under who has a disability (ensembles have to have at least one member with a disability) is eligible to apply.

Selection Process

An advisory committee comprised of music professionals and educators will assist with the selection process.  The 2007 judges included a music professional from Blake High School for the Arts, a member of the Florida Orchestra and the Dean of the College of Music at the University of South Florida.   This year the finalists will be announced in August of 2008.
