VSA arts of Florida's mission is to create a society where people with disabilities can learn through, participate in and enjoy the arts. |
Start with the Arts Take a survey to help us improve this arts education resource. One of the educational programs that VSAFL promotes is Start with the Arts. This is an early childhood pre-literacy curriculum that uses the arts as a tool to develop strong readers for children with and without disabilities. This theme-based resource guide helps promote school readiness, literacy, as well as inclusion, as it encourages all children to learn, work and play together using the arts. This user friendly instructional guide provides numerous hands-on theme based lessons that allow the child to participate in music, movement, drama or visual arts activities that relate to literature and enhances reading readiness skills. The content is tailored to the interests of 3-6 year olds. The art experiences on which it is based are carefully designed to be age appropriate. Finally, the program recognizes and seeks to accommodate individual learning differences by incorporating adaptive teaching strategies. VSAFL can provide trainings on this program tailored to your specific needs. The resource guide is available from the national office for $50.00 plus shipping charges.
