Training Professional Development Training Workshops: In accordance to our mission VSAFL provides trainings which emphasize inclusion in a variety of art settings. These trainings can be altered to meet the needs of the audience participating and the organization. Start with the Arts: Start with the Arts is a pre-literacy and arts based program resource guide. The guide is divided into four major themes that include 57 user friendly hands on lessons for students with and without disabilities. All art lessons are applicable to Florida State Standards and comply with the state’s benchmarks. Trainings for SWTA include an overview of the guide via power point followed by breakout sessions in which the participants will experience firsthand specific lesson plans presented by teaching artists. Depending on the length of the workshop one or all four art forms are presented. This workshop showcases inclusion strategies and the arts as a teaching tool with a multi disciplinary approach. This session is appropriate for early childhood educators, staff and parents. Inclusion: Trainings for the inclusion of students with disabilities to be successful in the general classroom include information on varying disability types, namely: physical, developmental and cognitive. Sessions dealing with varying disabilities includes: “best practices,” accommodations and modifications, least level of intervention, people first language and behavior strategies.
