Arts In Medicine
Arts in Medicine is committed to using the visual arts as a way of transforming the medical environment from a sterile, depersonalized setting to one of color and inspiration. Since its inception in 1990, AIM has brought works of art into the hospital and clinics on a permanent and rotating basis to enhance corridors, waiting and treatment areas for patients and families. AIM also uses patient/artist collaborative installations as a way of combining activities at the bedside with its mission of environmental transformation. The Artists in Residence program is based on the current shift in health care toward mind-body integration, patient empowerment and autonomy, and the rebirth of shared leadership among healthcare givers. The artists in residence demonstrate the benefits of shared creative experiences between artists, patients, family and staff, leading to a more whole and healing environment.
